Who doesn’t know the adage that a “dog is man’s best friend”? Well this is not unfounded after you will hear about this story. It is just hard to find affection and loyalty like that from anyone other than our beloved furry friend.
At one point, that endearing creature becomes so ingrained in our hearts that it becomes as necessary as food and water for our survival. And no peeps, it’s a living fact that we can observe in ordinary touching circumstances rather than a catchphrase.
When he was nearing the end of his life in the hospital, this old patient was most certain of this. The prognosis was not good, and his physicians battled for days to preserve his life. That is until he ran across his best friend once more…yes his beloved pet!
Two broken hearts?

Valdir and Preta, as this man called her, clicked right away, and a connection that lasted a lifetime was formed. They were inseparable after growing close to one another’s hearts. Valdir, who was 73 years old at the time, became ill four years later and was admitted to the hospital, more specifically in the intensive care unit. Everyone could feel the gravity of the situation.
The doctors saw that Valdir’s mental state was declining along with his physical health, which was becoming worse every day.
They were at a loss for what to do, but fortunately, a hospital psychologist had an idea…a brilliant idea!
This woman understood that Valdir and his beloved Preta were very close since he talked about her the entire time he was in the hospital.
Since she hadn’t seen her cherished human in a while, Valdir’s daughter Lisi also informed her that the dog was in a poor condition.
The psychologist called for the Zabel family to take Preta to the hospital as soon as she heard this. As you probably guessed at this point, a big surprise was waiting everyone…
A life-paring reunion!

The psychologist meticulously prepared everything for the patient and his dog’s reunion that day in collaboration with the physicians and Valdir’s family.
The physicians carefully carried Valdir out in a hospital cart once Preta was already in front of the hospital. He started crying as soon as he saw his beloved pet, and nothing could stop the happy tears from streaming out of his eyes. We are sure everyone of you would have had the same reacting…right?
The highlight of this heartwarming meeting came when they embraced each other. At the same time we were having Valdir crying with joy while his Preta continued to smile and waggled her tail wildly. This is definitely among the most poignant moments in this hospital’s history.
But the most intriguing part is that this entire tale occurred only four days after his admission. Valdir’s condition significantly improved that he was able to leave the intensive care unit and, based on all signs, soon return to his cozy home.
The theory about the true impact of our furry friends to us is best supported by a story of a serious wound to the heart that was healed with a single embrace, embrassing both body and soul.
They are genuinely our guardian angels in addition to being our pets. Who will agree?
